According to the recent Tele-density and market share data, the country has registered an increase in telephone connections, both wired and wireless, and reached up to 1.01 billion. Out of the 1.01 billion, 94.31 million are provided by BSNL.

The total telephone connections in the country have increased by 2.53 million, whereas the wireless have surged by 2.6 million. Among the market share, few operators have registered a negative growth, including Uninor and Sistema during July 2015.
The tele-density is at the top with Delhi license area with 80.12 percentage and is registered the low at Bihar at 54 percent.
BSNL occupies fifth position as an operator with market share of 9.34 percent in case of total telephone connections. Although the state-run operator has shown a decrease during 2015-2016 by 0.2 percent, a slight increase was seen in July, by 0.04%.
For wireless services, the total connections as of 31 July 2015 are 984 million, out of which 78.5 million are provided by BSNL. In wireless sector, BSNL occupies the sixth position as an operator with a market share of 8 percent. In July 2015, the operator has shown an increase of 0.04 percent.
For wired services, the total connections as of June 2015 are 15.7 million among which a share of 9.91 million are provided by BSNL. Besides, BSNL has a number one position as an operator in wired services with market share 63.12% as of June 2015.
