Idea Cellular, India’s fastest growing telecom operator, announced the expansion of its hi-speed 4G LTE service to three more towns of Tamil Nadu & Chennai circle, taking the total tally to 32. Covering all major towns across all 21 districts, the company has increased its presence exponentially within a short span of time.

In 12 out of these over 32 towns, Idea has also become the sole operator to provide 4G LTE services, gaining first mover advantage in an additional 10 towns.

Idea’s world class 4G LTE service is available in the major towns of Coimbatore, Pondicherry and in the industrial belt of Gummidipoondi; in addition to the existing towns of Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Tirunelveli, Vellore, Erode and Tirupur; where services were launched earlier this year. Idea’s 4G network in TN&C is built on a strong foundation of a total 2,500 4G sites and will continue to expand as more and more users join the Idea 4G LTE family.

Speaking on the expansion, Mr. M. D. Prasad, Chief Operating Officer – Tamil Nadu & Chennai, Idea Cellular said, “We have strengthened our presence in the circle at a rapid pace in last 2 months and have received an overwhelming response from the customers on both- unparalleled internet experience and unmatched coverage. With aggressive rollout, we remain focused on providing our customers in the region with world-class mobile broadband experience and superior service delivery.

Very good initiative from Idea network it would be fine if you provide good 4g internet speed for the subscribers. which will increase more sales of your network

I wonder why Idea is NOT taking 4G with OFC backhaul seriously… Even their CEO Kapania said so, “OFC is over-rated” and every one knows its foolish.. Microwave backhaul is good till 3G speeds, but for consistent 4G speeds, OFC backhaul is a must. Only Airtel and RJio are serious about this, NOT even vodafone.. This is the reason Idea’s 4G speed is as good as its 3G speed only..

In my town, Idea 4G speed is much worse than Airtel’s 3G speed, even though Idea has way too less number of customers.

>>OFC is overrated<< holds true for Idea(Gareebo ka airtel) as they have relatively more subscribers from rural areas and microwave backhaul is enough for catering data demand there. Idea's strategy is good in that sense. They can expand OFC selectively in towns and cities as needed later. Its Vodafone, who will be at most risk for not taking 4G and OFC expansion seriously. They keep data price high to maintain QoS, which won't work once Jio launches with cheaper data and huge capacity. Right now, Jio is struggling with VoLTE and all that buggy bloatwares filled LYF phones it has… Read more »

No, in Karnataka IDEA has laid OFC across many national highways. I have seen.

Yes.. Inter-City OFC laying is a MUST, even Tata has done that many years back.. What I am talking about is intra-city OFC backhauling.. Connecting majority of towers with in city with OFC for backhaul.. What Idea is doing now is TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE…

In kolkata Vodafone 4G speed is excellent. Bandwidth is around 16 mbps and download speed is 2 mbps.
