Idea cellular and Reliance communications both Pan India operators number 3 and number 4 respectively by subscriber base are popular among mobile data users. Idea has 900MHz spectrum in 10 circles while Rcom has it in 7 circles and 1800MHz spectrum in the remaining circles both of which are being used to offer 2G voice and data services (Except for Idea’s 900MHz liberalised spectrum in Delhi which will be used for 3G).
In general Idea’s network coverage is better than Rcom’s but Rcom provides lower tariffs, which is why Rcom has a larger share of the price sensitive market while Idea has a larger share of quality conscious market. In a recent move both operators have revised their 2G data offerings in Maharashtra circle with Idea becoming costlier and Rcom becoming cheaper.
Idea cellular has revised Rs.198 pack which used to offer unlimited 2G data now offers only 1280MB with 28 days validity. Rcom revised Rs.127 pack which initially offered 3GB 2G data with unlimited FB/TW/WA now offers true unlimited data without FUP for 30 days. Idea revised Rs.248 pack to offer unlimited 2G data with an FUP of 3GB beyond which speed is throttled with 28-day validity.
Rcom for the same denomination of Rs.248 offers true unlimited 2G data without FUP with 60-day validity which is more than double of what Idea provides. The choice lies with the subscriber whether to pick quality or affordability.
Note: Kindly check with customer care before recharging with any of the denominations mentioned above.
