Eir to Upgrade IP Backbone to Support Growing Traffic Across Ireland
Ireland’s telecommunications company Eir announced on Tuesday an expanded partnership with Nokia to support the operator's growing customer base for new services across the country. This will involve Nokia deploying a new 400/800GE IP backbone to support growing data traffic from Eir's fixed and mobile customers.

Deployment of New IP Backbone

Additionally, Eir will use Nokia's service router platform, powered by FP5 routing silicon, for greater capacity, power efficiency, and security. This upgrade will enable Eir to provide reliable connectivity and service to every corner of Ireland, the joint statement said.

Supporting Eir's Connectivity Strategy

"This announcement further supports our strategy to ‘Connect for a Better Ireland,’ enabling access to the latest technology and fastest speeds, and expanding our network capacity to meet ongoing customer and traffic growth," Eir said.

"Eir is delighted to continue growing its collaboration with Nokia for IP Network Infrastructure, delivering future-proof and highly reliable network technology for our customers," the Irish telecom provider added.
