Here is a reason to grin for all those who have been waiting for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on their Cyanogen-powered smartphones. Cyanogen has announced that it will soon be rolling out the Cyanogen OS 12 update (which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop) to OnePlus One, Yu Yureka, and Alcatel Hero 2+. The company has revealed a tentative timeline for the update to be delivered.
Cyanogen also stated the development that has been made in regard to the update and also the leftover work that needs to be taken care of, before it can initiate rolling out the update to the above mentioned smartphones. For OnePlus One, the update has reached the level of final boot loader firmware and is now being tested for QA/QE results. Sadly, the OnePlus One smartphones in India won’t get this update. The OnePlus One India users will instead receive the OxygenOS from OnePlus in coming weeks.
Moreover, for Yureka, Cyanogen stated that it is addressing the same QA/QE results and has already begun testing with selected Yureka users in India. Yu recently announced that the device will be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update soon. We can expect the roll out on March 26.
Cyanogen also mentioned the progress that has been made for the Alcatel Hero 2+. The company says that it is working with MediaTek and has plans to roll out the update in May-June timeline. The company also mentioned that it is evaluating the changes required in the 5.1 Lollipop update and it will include the new features in the future Lollipop 5.1 OTA update, which will be rolled out after the Lollipop 5.0 update.
