Government-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to unveil an AI/ML-driven solution to curb spam communications on its mobile network. The company announced via a tweet on Thursday that its breakthrough technology is in the final stages of development and will be capable of identifying, neutralising, and eliminating scams before they reach users.

BSNL's AI/ML Solution for Spam
"Good news! We’ve cracked it. A breakthrough AI/ML-powered solution is in its final stage, designed to identify, neutralise and eliminate scams before they reach you. The future of digital security is coming soon." the official account of BSNL posted on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday.
"Using cutting-edge technology, we are dedicated to protect users from unwanted calls and messages. This initiative enhances users privacy and aligns with TRAI regulations for a cleaner telecom experience," BSNL shared on X Friday.
The solution will be officially revealed during the India Mobile Congress 2024, a telecom industry conference and trade show, scheduled to take place from October 15-18. BSNL's initiative aims to safeguard citizens and enhance the digital security of its network, providing a safer and more secure environment for its mobile subscribers.
Airtel's AI-Powered Spam Solution
The move comes shortly after Bharti Airtel introduced India’s first network-driven, AI-powered spam detection solution. Airtel’s solution, which is free of cost auto-activates for all customers without requiring service requests or app downloads, is designed to block suspected spam calls and SMSes, Airtel said in a statement this week. The solution with function on smartphones with VoLTE-enabled calls.

TRAI's Push for Safer Networks
Both BSNL and Airtel’s initiatives follow directives from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) aimed at reducing the growing menace of unsolicited commercial communications (UCC). As complaints from mobile users continue to rise, these AI-powered solutions are seen as critical tools in improving customer experience and addressing the problem of spam communications across the country.
