BlackBerry Resumes BBM Rollout for Android and iPhone Users

The official BBM app is now available in Google PlayStore for Android smartphone   running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean (Android 4.x) and, the App Store for iPhone running iOS 6 and iOS.

BBM for Android and iOS has already crossed 5.5 million users combined for iOS and Android in just last 8 hours. However, the launch has been anything but smooth with some facing server issues on Android version.

The demand for BBM on Android and BBM on iPhone continues to be amazing. About six million people signed up for information about BBM at BBM.com. So BlackBerry has gone for a phased roll-out of the app through a registration system.

Android and iPhone users who had previously signed up with BBM will get first preference. The remaining users must wait in line for the app. Users for whom the spot is open will get an email notification telling them that the app and service are ready to download.

  • How to Download BBM for Android and iPhone :
  1. Download BBM – the easiest way is to visit BBM.com from your Android or iPhone browser*  or Direct link for Android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bbm
  2. Once you install the app, open it, and enter your email address to hold your spot in line
  3. BlackBerry will email you as soon as you reach the front of the line and can start using BBM

Earlier in September, BlackBerry had paused the global roll-out of its Instant Messaging service BBM on Android smartphone and iPhones, blaming the delay on issues caused by an unreleased old version of BBM (BlackBerry Messenger).

BBM has more than 60 million monthly active customers on BlackBerry alone, and the overwhelming majority use BBM an average of 90 minutes per day. BBM customers collectively send and receive more than 10 billion messages each day, nearly twice as many messages per user per day as compared to other mobile messaging apps. Messages on BBM are typically read within seconds, reflecting how truly engaged BBM customers are.
