Asus Zenfone Max M1 Review: Getting the Basics Right

Asus has recently launched two new smartphones in India- the Asus Zenfone Max M1 and the Zenfone Lite L1 catering to the budget and entry-level segment. The Zenfone Lite L1 takes on the Xiaomi Redmi 6A and Realme C1, whereas the Zenfone Max M1 is targeted at the Realme 2 and the Xiaomi Redmi 6. As the names of the phones itself suggest, the Zenfone Max M1 is the better one of the two- packing a 4000mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner. In recent times, we have seen a lot of smartphones launching under Rs 10,000 in India, but only a few stood out from the crowd. For example, smartphones such as Realme 2, Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Realme C1 sold in large numbers, thanks to their specifications.

And now, Asus has joined that list and trying to gain some popularity. The Asus Zenfone Max M1 comes in a single variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and it’s priced at Rs 8,999. However, as an introductory price, the phone will be available at Rs 7,499 during Diwali. I have been using the Zenfone Max M1 for over ten days now and here’s full review of the product.

Asus Zenfone Max M1 Review: Design and Display

Design wise, the Max M1 looks like a smaller version of the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, but there are some changes. The Max Pro M1 is constructed out of metal whereas the Max M1 is made out of the plastic or in Asus’ words- polycarbonate. Asus has added the metallic finish to the rear panel which makes the phone feels a little bit premium. Talking about the placements, the power button and volume rockers are placed on the right side; the dual SIM card tray and a dedicated microSD card slot are on the left side. To the bottom, we have the loudspeaker and Micro USB port, and on the top, there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack. The buttons are clicky and offer decent tactile feedback.
