At a time when Reliance Jio is expected to take the Indian Internet scenario by storm Airtel is silently increasing their 4G foothold. Airtel has added up three more circles cities Virar, Nalasapora and Vasai. Airtel already have 4G coverage in Pune and Nashik which translates into a pretty strong foothold in the Maharashtra region.

It can be observed that Airtel are extending 4G services to tier 2 cities so that they can benefit from the untapped potential of wireless Internet connectivity in the non metro regions. Airtel obviously has been stifled with the Reliance Jio upcoming launch and are frantically trying to spread their coverage area so that they can have a good head start.

Verdict

Too little and too late is something Airtel has been doing with the 4G, they have still not launched completely unlimited 4G plans and the LTE speeds are almost similar or in some cases worse than the 3G speeds. Airtel needs to start giving users a sense of freedom and a crucial part of this would be to increase the FUP from the meagre 2G speeds to at least a respectable 256Kbps. The good thing is that Airtel still has one of the most widely spread out network in the country and that is a big plus point.
