For USA and UK it should have been Rs3000, it would have reasonable. It is better to use local sim than this plan. You will get local sim for UK in the visa processing centre in India, so that you can buy before you travel.

This is awesome. Airtel had been launching garbage value packs in recent days but this one is really awesome. It is definitely very very cheap and will benefit US goers the most as buying prepaid SIM with same benefits will prove costly than IR. Hoping Voda to come up with something similar.

Kudos to airtel!

Yon can get a prepaid SIM in the US from discount carriers like Metro for $40 per month which works out to be around Rs 2600. This gives you 1Gb data on 4G then unlimited 3G (no throttling ), unlimited US calls and texts (incoming and outgoing ) and around 200 free minutes to many countries. Airtel pack is good if you want to keep your number or don’t want to hassle with getting a new SIM.

Do remember that local US/UK sim leads to international calls… if your family is calling you from India. With these packs, your family from India can call you as a regular local/STD call … that would save 500-1000 Rs i think!!

There are companies like ultra, lyca, h2o which give unlimited Intl calls, SMS, local calls n SMS and 1GB data for $35 . Friends from India can just give a missed call. Aircel gives USA calls at 1p/min by default for all prepaid users. Also. Most operators give isd packs at less than ?40. Considering all these it’s better to get a local SIM than getting a roaming pack. Except for the 3GB data nothing else looks good. Even aircel provides roaming pack with ?5 for all incoming and outgoing calls at ?235 or so. I’m not sure about the… Read more »
