Airtel Bidding US$10.7 Billion to Buy Africa’s Zain Mobile

India’s largest mobile service operator Bharti Airtel and Zain have agreed to enter into exclusive discussions until 25 March 2010 for the acquisition of Zain’s African unit (Zain Africa BV) based on an enterprise value of USD 10.7 billion. This potential transaction does not include Zain’s operations in Morocco and Sudan and remains subject to due diligence, customary regulatory approvals and signing of final transaction documentation.

If the deal is successful, Bharti Airtel will become an telecom operator in 15 countries in Africa named Burkina Faso, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

According to the Airtel statement :There can be no assurance that a transaction will be consummated. Further announcements will be made in due course”

Airtel is professional but If the marketing stats they taking…. that distributor getting lot off headache….. they want sell GPRS card no they thing that subscribers hve an lot off time to play in internet through gprs……………if they sell gprs they thing that they will get good revenue in my view the Airtel will stand at 15 to 20% market share in next 4year…Bcz Airtel had lost already 4 to 5 percent of market share….. frm the new competitor’s the Estisalat will make more aggressive competition for International call charges in think this also slashes more revenue and market share… Read more »

Good Airtel but, can u get Zain bcz the telecom sector is downgraded and the revenues of all the big telecom operater falling like an ice who never no may b they get bankrupt…. Bcz they are unable to fully give an 2G services for the subscribers. They want and they want 3g network…………………
