OFF TOPIC – I am simply pissed off with Idea cellular, my phone stays on EDGE 80% time of the day and that is unbearable for me. Force 3G is not an option but only preferred 3G (windows phone 8.1) but that shouldn’t be a problem as my Vodafone delhi numbers stays on 3G forever if put on so but not in the case of Idea. Either the network is poorly optimised or my SIM card is faulty. CC, twitter support and everyone tells me to clear cookies! Isn’t that great? Such brainless people and worst customer service among avoid… Read more »

You can check the signal strength on the idea SIM using Netmonitor or if Windows Phone 8.1 has its own signal strength checker idk. 90% this is a weak 3G signal issue. Even if you had a Wcdma only mode it won’t help much because then it won’t even latch to 2G and the connectivity will be worse or zero. Maybe you can check at different locations to see if 3G gets stable. Ballia is still in the eighteenth century I think, can’t expect all telcos to be giving top services there.

Ah! Frankly speaking 3G services are better here than in Delhi, anytime and apart from this isolated incidence, all five ( minus aircel and BSNL) provide good services here.

How about changing to Android? 😀 Jokes apart, you could try putting it in another 3G handset & selecting WCDMA only option there. Strictly speaking, that should not work as network selection is a phone function not a SIM feature. But it may be worth a try. And you can’t just deactivate 2G & keep 3G lol 😀 Are you sure your area has Idea 3G?

Another option is to deactivate 3G services on your phone and then reactivate it after a few hours. It might resolve any incorrect network settings for ur sim card. Last option is to try using a different handset and see if the same issue occurs or not.

Request for a new sim or ask the technical backend team to resolve the issue. I was facing a similar issue with airtel while roaming in Maharashtra where my phone latched on to 2G network even though airtel 3G was present. Now the issue is resolved. Looks like they have some priority settings for different sim cards. Another option is to keep the phone in 3G only mode which doesn’t seem feasible in your case.

Who is forcing you to use Idea? Just port out. You can already see that Vodafone has better coverage at your location. If you have to use Idea then you can’t do much as this is happening due to poor 3G coverage. Nothing will change until they install new towers to cover your location. That’s not going to happen in a hurry, rest assured about that. You can check which tower your phone is connecting to in 2G and 3G mode using netmonitor app. Maybe the tower is too far away or just overloaded.

When you get offers like:-

1. Rs27- 27TT+L/STD 40P/min
2. 1GB- Rs 148
3. 2GB – around 290

Porting wouldn’t be easy.

@ Sunny – Why he should port out from Idea? For what purpose Idea has acquired 2G spectrum all over India? I agree with SS. Idea is not providing proper 2G service in Kerala, Tamil Nadu Circle etc.. If they are not able to provided seamless coverage and speed then they should surrender the spectrum and exit from this business. Instead they are doing manipulation in telecom business here. Forcing customers to shift the technology. And for that some nonsense idiots like you are giving rubbish suggestions here to the readers favoring telecom companies.

@Madhavan, Actually there are idle, jobless people like you who have all the time in the world to wait for things to change and there are other people who don’t like to be led around like fools and they themselves make the required changes. This is a free country and everybody is free to post their comments. If you can do anything to stop me from posting you can try it, lol. If not then don’t poke your nose in others’ business, it is a forum for civilized people not goons or bullies. I think you suffer from persecutory delusional… Read more »

Hey mate, what network would you suggest here in LKO . Airtel and BSNL are out of question since I have had the displeasure of using there services already. For 3G ofc!

Hey bro! I can’t vouch for any particular network because the services vary from locality to locality. To be on the safe side go for Vodafone, UPE and Lucknow in particular have been Vodafone fortresses for a long long time. I know a ton of people on Vodafone and no one ever complains. Not sure why Airtel didn’t work for you, it has quite good network here as well. BSNL I really cannot recommend, works for some, doesn’t work for most. I use BSNL as secondary SIM that too for voice. Just average service. Although voice quality loud and clear… Read more »
