Azercell, Azerbaijan’s largest mobile network operator by subscriptions, has reported over 30 percent surge in mobile internet usage over the past year. According to Azercell, this increase in data consumption comes as the telco expands and modernises its network infrastructure across the country.

First 5G Network Test Mode Launched
In a large-scale project initiated a year ago, Azercell has undertaken efforts to strengthen the overall network capacity while also marking a milestone with the launch of Azerbaijan’s first 5G network in test mode, as reported by TelecomTalk.
Azercell stated that it has successfully deployed 160 new 4G base stations in various regions, in addition to extensive improvement works carried out in more than 1554 existing base stations since August of the previous year, leading to a substantial enhancement of the network.
LTE Coverage Expansion in Nakhchivan
Azercell stated one noteworthy achievement is in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, where the telco commissioned over 70 new 4G base stations, resulting in a 14.1 percent increase in the coverage of the LTE Network. This expansion and network optimisation have directly contributed to a 30 percent surge in Azercell’s internet traffic.

Presently, Azercell operates more than 100 base stations in Karabakh, ensuring mobile communication services are available in crucial districts such as Shusha, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadli, Kalbajar, Istisu, settlements of Hadrut, Sugovushan, as well as villages of Khojavand and other regions.
