Reliance Jio launched the second generation of its popular feature phone, JioPhone 2. The new JioPhone came with a striking new upgrade with a QWERTY keypad which bears an uncanny resemblance with the BlackBerry phones. Although, the hardware inside the phone wasn’t upgraded the phone has also been touted to come with WhatsApp support soon. However, Finnish giant HMD Global has also launched its new 4G feature phone, the Nokia 8110 4G or better known as the banana phone. Both these feature phones come with similar features. Down below, we give you a detailed comparison between both these devices to help you decide which one is a better bang for your buck.

Design and Display

In terms of design, the JioPhone 2 and the banana phone differ quite a lot. While the JioPhone 2 features a QWERTY BlackBerry-like design which comes with a 2.4-inch horizontally placed screen, a 4-way navigation key and a dedicated voice command key, the Nokia 8110 4G has a curved banana-shaped design with a slider to cover the keypad. The keypad comes with T9 predictive text input, and the display is a 2.4-inch vertically-placed screen.

Hardware, Software and Imaging

On the software front, both the phones boot the KaiOS. As for the processor, the Nokia 8110 depends on Snapdragon 205, whereas the processor on the JioPhone 2 remains a mystery as of now. Both the phones support dual-SIM with the option of using one nano-SIM and the other slot allowing for a micro-SIM. The resolution on both these phones comes off to be 240x320 pixels, however, like we mentioned above, the JioPhone 2 comes with a horizontal screen whereas the Nokia 8110 4G comes with a vertical screen. Speaking of RAM, both the phones come with 512MB of memory paired with 4GB of internal storage which is expandable by microSD card.

On the imaging front, the JioPhone 2 and the Nokia 8110 4G both feature a 2MP rear camera. The JioPhone 2 also gets a VGA front selfie snapper whereas the Nokia 8110 4G does not come with a selfie shooter. The JioPhone 2 also gets a better battery as it packs 2,000mAh worth of power, however, the Nokia 8110 4G makes do with a 1,500mAh unit. Connectivity options on both these phones also remain the same except for NFC which only finds its way to the JioPhone 2. Similar to the JioPhone 2, the Nokia 8110 4G has also been slated to get WhatsApp support soon.

Pricing

While the JioPhone 2 has been given a price tag of Rs 2,999 and it went live on August 15, the Nokia 8110 4G is expected to come to the Indian market sometime in Q3. The pricing of the Nokia 8110 4G also remains a bit higher compared to its counterpart according to the global pricing of the phone. The banana phone retails with a price tag of EUR 79 (approx. Rs 6,300) in Europe, SGD 98 (approx. Rs 4,900) in Singapore, and GBP 78.56 (approx. Rs 7,040) in the UK.

Keeping in mind that both the phones closely resemble each other in terms of OS, RAM and hardware, there is little left to compare except the pricing. Also, the JioPhone fares better than the Nokia phone regarding camera and NFC support. Also, looking at the global pricing of the Nokia 8110 4G, it is apparent that the JioPhone 2 stands a clear winner unless Nokia decides to launch the phone in India with a lighter price tag.
