Country’s second-largest telecom operator Vodafone India has announced the availability of 4G SIMs for its customers in Kolkata as it braces itself up for bringing in the world’s largest 4G network in the city. These 4G ready SIMs will be made available at multi-brand outlets in a phased manner and also in around 28 exclusive stores located in and around Kolkata.

“To avail 4G services, customers will need to have a 4G-enabled handset and a new 4G-Ready SIM card. To ensure a smooth and seamless exchange of 4G-ready SIMs, these are being made available in advance of the commercial launch of Vodafone’s 4G services in Kolkata,” Vodafone said in a statement.

A formal announcement regarding the launch, which is expected soon, will be made in due course, it added.

Anand Sahai, Business Head–Kolkata and Rest of Bengal Circles, Vodafone India, said, “Vodafone is the leading telecommunication services provider in Kolkata and our five million customers have a lot to look forward to…We are excited and fully geared up to launch our 4G services on the superior 1800 MHz band in Kolkata very soon.”

Vodafone has successfully tested its 4G services on its network architecture coupled with strong backup to support the expected volumes and speed requirements of its customers. Vodafone is investing about Rs 13,000 crore for modernizing its existing network and is also incorporating the latest advances in technology.

Just collected a 4G sim from Vodafone Store in Camac Street, Kolkata. They will launch 4G here on 26 Jan as confirmed by the Store executives. The sim swap process is slightly tedious as compared to airtel.

@Pug La – when they havent launched how in Mumbai, how do you expect to get signals? the NO SERVICE message comes when there is a SIM CARD REGISTRATION failure on the (4G) network. This is normal. You should have kept the same and used it on 2G, 3G.. this is what I did here in Secunderabad and Hyderabad a few days ahead of the AIRTEL 4G launch.
