Uninor today announced the launch of new concept called ‘dynamic pricing’ that is likely to set a new trend in the pricing of mobile services in India.
This is first of its kind service in India dynamic pricing is ‘24X7 Changing Discount Plan (DP)’, will offer customers changing discounts on their calls based on traffic on the network and our sources indicate Aircel will soon announce a similar service.
The discounts will change with location and with time, with each cellphone tower broadcasting a different discount. At the same location, the discount will change on an hourly basis. By putting customers in control of costs, with 24X7 changing discount rates, this could very well change the tariff structure in Indian telecom.
Under the ‘24X7 Changing Discount Plan (DP)’, customers will be able to avail a discount on their calls that ranges from 5% to as much as 60%, depending on their location and time at which they call. This discount will be applicable on a standard base call rate of 50 paisa per minute for any local call, Uninor-to-Uninor or Uninor-to-any other operator. This means a 1-minute call could cost as low as 20 paisa and never more than 50 paisa.
How does it work
The discount available at any given time will be visible at all times on the screens of handsets that display cell broadcast. The discount visible on the screen at the time a customer calls will be the applicable discount for the call. When the call ends, a flash will appear on the phone screen indicating the actual discounted cost of the call.
The dynamic discounts available at any given time will depend on network traffic and customers location at that time, providing customers maximum flexibility to choose between convenience and savings.
“The 24X7 Changing Discount Plan (DP) will not only help customers make significant savings on their bills, but also empower them by placing the power of tariffs in their hands. We will pass on our network capacity savings to our customers. With customers using our service more at locations and times that give best discounts, we will also be able to utilize our capacity better. It is a perfect model and I won’t be surprised if it soon becomes an industry practice.” said Ann Hofvander, Executive Vice-President, Karnataka Hub.
Sophisticated technology that puts the customer in control
Discounts are calculated by a sophisticated ‘Discount Engine’ that relies on state-of-the-art IT systems to continuously monitor traffic at every tower in the network. For customers, this could literally mean discounts changing from, say 5% to 60%, just by crossing a street, as customers move into the coverage of another tower. Over a longer period, this would mean considerable savings on phone bills.
Ann Hofvander Executive Vice President Bangalore Hub quoted In a market as dynamic and price competitive as Karnataka, differentiation will be the key to success. We will do this by listening closely to our customers’ wishes and living our values of simplicity, respect, keeping promises and being inspiring. As we continue to deliver the services to our customers in Karnataka, this launch at Tumkur fortifies our commitment and focus to reach out to every town and village of the state. Our intent is long-term – to build Uninor as the preferred service in India”.

Don’t go with that DP plan. These people are cheating. They won’t give you discount of more than 15%, even it will flash 60% on your screen. I complained many times to customer care, but they told me that I am lying!!!

i have been getting quite decent discounts from past week or two. It has been around 25- 45% , never have got 60% though. hope it continues or maybe get better..and hope that it improves for you guys too..@ amit and raghu.
Raghu August 16, 2010 at 3:50 pm
@amit.g
yes they have already started cheating the customers Uninor by not giving enough discount i also agree with you. maximum i also get is 10-15% .previously some 1 month back i was getting min 30-40% discount. but now 40% discoiunt is far away.
Amit.g August 16, 2010 at 3:35 pm
I had activated uninor’s 26rs Dynamic pricing plan but later after 3 days i came back to 198 plan. the only reason is very low discounts, most of the time(90% of the day/night) discount will be withn 10%-15%. because of this my avg call charge was 45p/min which is very costly compared to 198plan( here we get 30p/min to other mobile & 0.01p/min to uninor mobile. UNINOR PLS START GIVING BETTER DISCOUNTS OR ELSE UR DYNAMIC PRICING PLAN WILL BE UTTER FLOP!!
prudence August 16, 2010 at 3:16 pm
well, for me uninor has been the best mobile operator i have used. i haven’t faced any network problem and their plans have been quite useful for me too.
Sanjay Bafna August 3, 2010 at 5:21 pm

janis July 16, 2010 at 4:46 pm

jayesh July 1, 2010 at 12:01 pm
There unlimited plan has worked good for me. i think uninor should advertise about this plan too.
Amit.g June 25, 2010 at 3:59 pm
@danu
NO the discount wont change while speaking. Eg if ur cell info display is displaying 20% and you make a call then you ll get 20% dis per min till you end the call no matter you move to other place wher ter is different discount.
danu June 25, 2010 at 1:26 pm
There is a lot of positive buzz and news about uninor’s dynamic discount plan. its different surely but someone tell me, if i talk for a long time will the discount change between the call?
Subhajit dey May 28, 2010 at 8:04 pm
nice offer for dynamic price.grantee no fight for competition any other company.Because uninor is more than 155 year company.only 4 months launch to 11 states thats fantastic.
Max May 28, 2010 at 7:04 pm
@vitas
jus recharge for 48rs u ll get 3 months validity, keep cell info display( cell broadcasting) on & ur phone ll stsrt displaying “x% off on DP” discount vary from 5%-60% depending on network traffic, if tower is busy u ll get less tat is 5-10% off & if its free u ll get 40-60%.it will be updating every 5-10mins as per my observation. discount will be done on 50P. if u get 5% off then u ll be charged 47.5p for 60%=20p.
vitas May 28, 2010 at 6:53 pm
can anyone explain me how this offer works???
Max May 20, 2010 at 3:20 pm
@maggie
yes i have seen in my cell info dispay as “60% off on DP” i have seen this in many placesbut it will be for 10mins tats it… but i don use this plan its rubbish.. in villages it shows 10% off, im using 198 plan its cheap compared to 24*7 plan
maggie May 20, 2010 at 3:12 pm
has any uninor user got 60% discount??…. if yes, what place?
pavan May 8, 2010 at 7:52 pm
@saket
after 90 days the call charges may like this local or national
uninor to uninor 60ps/min
uninor to other 60ps/
confirmed by cc executives.Another important thing behind this you can not come back to call more or talk longer plans, the cc executives hidden this matter ,by force i found this information
rajiev May 2, 2010 at 10:12 pm
automatic saving plan , nice offer by new telecom operator in india.
Max May 2, 2010 at 12:51 pm
@emad
Every operator loots money infact its a business tact to stay in market…
emad May 2, 2010 at 12:23 pm
never go for uninor and try to understand uninor slogan airtel voda loot chuke aur???? “AB MERA NUMBER HAI”
Max May 2, 2010 at 8:38 am
@emad
You will cme back to ur base tariff ( 29p/min with set up chrge or 2 rs rent)
rajiev May 2, 2010 at 8:32 am
@emad
back to pavalion.
saket May 2, 2010 at 8:32 am
recharge again with 48
emad May 2, 2010 at 6:36 am
What will happen after 3 month
Max May 2, 2010 at 1:06 am
@suhan srikanth
Actly to avail this u need to recharge for 48 with zero talk value & 3 months validity. all discounted calls will be calculated with 50p/min & ter is no first min crap in this. from first min to last min u ll be charger as per the discount
suhan srikanth May 1, 2010 at 10:53 pm
max. 50ps/min ? ? will 68ps/min or 29/min offer be discontinued??? still confusing uninor !! ! ! !
many times it happens with uninor getting calls droped well within first minute paying 68ps for first minute, but couldn’t continue call due to call drop at uninor network. uninor network still needs to be improved before giving such offers…. Calls drop many a times even when signal at uninor is full and I am sure there would be no problem with the network at other side which receives call
All the best uninor ! !
emad May 1, 2010 at 9:17 pm
Uninor or confusionor?
saket May 1, 2010 at 8:04 pm
try once with DP247 and Rs2/day scheme
Max May 1, 2010 at 7:50 pm
@saket
But till now i didn get more than 40% discount.. it is economical only if we get discount above 40%
saket May 1, 2010 at 6:58 pm
i think u will be better suited for Call more plam with RS 2 rent.
In anycase DP247 is good, after looking out discount in our regular areas like office/restuarent/home etc
Max May 1, 2010 at 6:33 pm
Even though Uninor’s has tariff like 1st min @ 68p but still it is cheap.. Before in my Airtel i used to spend nearly 400/month for currency But last month to check i made all calls from uninor whic i used to make from Airtel & found tat i have saved nearly 70rs. In uninor if we speak for 2mins we ll be charged for 97p & in Airtel 1re. 80% of calls made last for more than 1min. In uninor if we recharge for 50 we get 55 & for 100 we get 110. so if we see overall uninor is still cheaper, only drawback is no sms packs..( but this dynamic pricing is not effective u hardly save cos ur calls ll be calculated as 50p/m & for tat 40% discount= 30p/min whic is same) & tat too we hardly get 40% discount
emad May 1, 2010 at 5:58 pm
Uninor is worst severed
jaswanth roy May 1, 2010 at 5:26 pm
One telecom operator who would never know or at least try to understand the Indian consumer is Uninor. Even incumbents like Airtel,Vodafone, BSNL, MTNL have learnt and rationalized their tariffs, but not the Uninor. They think Indian consumers are stupids and always come with vague and confusing tariffs with rides which benefits them not the consumers. They should learn from CDMA MTS tariffs and network. How low and transparent are their tariffs with lifetime validity and quality network. If CDMA MTS can offer such offers why can’t GSM Uninor, if they had offered such tariffs and network by now they would have been the number one in adding the highest subscribers every month overtaking all others. But they would never do and they will realize their mistake only when they find their active subscribers are the lowest among all.
pammu May 1, 2010 at 2:51 pm
gr8 plan and desire to implement( will not say innovative as some boarder written that this type of plans already in Africa). good for customers otherwise Bharti or vofone to ab tak hum logon ko khoob loot rahe the. three cheers for docomo and uninor.
Ultra May 1, 2010 at 11:47 am
Uninor is very Innovative & Best 2G operator, next is Docomo.
Ultra May 1, 2010 at 11:43 am
Which Slum/Village u stay???
emad May 1, 2010 at 11:10 am
anywayz funny plan like a joke for laughing very loudly
Prasath J May 1, 2010 at 10:27 am
Being a new operator, its users have to come out from home to street to get nice coverage and to talk.. Now Uninor wants them to go from one street to other to make outgoing calls at discounted price…
Further Uninor has the most confusing plans in the Industry, like call mole$ting charges… Now Uninor still complicated its tariff and as someone said earlier in comments, to further complicate its tariff, Uninor has to implement Cube-Roots and Gamma functions in its next tariff plans…
saket May 1, 2010 at 10:12 am
it’s MTS and not reliance
Max May 1, 2010 at 10:08 am
In morning hours also its showing 10% Discount so forget abt 60% guys its all crap
vishal May 1, 2010 at 6:50 am
why all operators are launching the new schemes…….??????
y don’t they improve the networks…………..?????????
call charges in India are already lowest in world……………….
vinay May 1, 2010 at 1:15 am
@Keshav docomo gvs good plan with stv of 49/month, to reduce call rates to any network, to 30ps/min
Keshav April 30, 2010 at 11:55 pm
Plan is really good & different, but this is a mental pain plan. We need flat plans with simplicity. Kya koi aisa operator nahin hai India mein jo behtar network aur all India coverage ke saath competitive plans dey. Like Reliance with all India coverage & good network.
Dogsick April 30, 2010 at 11:46 pm
@saket
Checked with some guys in Uninor and they said that the discount will be based on when the call was first made (ie. 50%) and will remain thoughout even though you have moved to a 5% (confirmed that at the minimum, the discount is always 5%) tower.
So when the discount is high better call yar! Hahaha!
saket April 30, 2010 at 11:01 pm
saket April 30, 2010 at 10:54 pm
ho many rural areas are coverd by uninor
saket April 30, 2010 at 10:51 pm
it’s really complicated, but good, Bcoz Rs48/90 days 0.5/day
So better to spend 50p/day rather than 40p on each call.
One doubt, if my call is originated by one tower showing 50% but later i moved to other tower 0% discount what will be call rate?
ishan April 30, 2010 at 10:39 pm
Flat discount is always a better option like re.1/3min in Reliance or Uninor’s 29p/min or 1p/2sec.but many customers are using all calls @50p/min or 1p/sec,1.2p/sec.This ’24X7 Changing Discount Plan (DP)’ will give these customers a good amount of savings.In the recent future I think not only AIRCEL but also other new players in the market like Tata Docomo, STEL, Videocon will go for this type of tariff plan.
rajiev April 30, 2010 at 9:03 pm
all telecom operators r same ,they do nothing new. just change the way how to loot the customer.
my dream April 30, 2010 at 8:11 pm
very complicated and useless plan.dont encuorage these type of plans
himanshu April 30, 2010 at 7:51 pm
In several African countries this is the norm.. MTN and Zain both offer the same there..
Max April 30, 2010 at 7:32 pm
I asked cc abt this plan & found tat this is not worth.
FIRST THING IS WE SHOULD MAKE A RECHARGE OF 48RS( zero talktime 3months validity)
DISCOUNT ON CALLS WILL BE CALCULATED FOR 50P/MIN (hardly we get upto 40% in cities whic accounts for 30p/min)
WE WON BE GETTING 40% ALL THE TIME SO ITS BETTER TO BE ON 29P CALL WITH FIRST CALL @ 68P
There is of no use to spend 48rs for 3 months better spend 40p extra on each call.
manu April 30, 2010 at 6:22 pm
Infact Uninor is offering free GPRS till 6th May! It has been launched…
Avi H April 30, 2010 at 6:07 pm
Nice one,..
Keep it up,…
manu April 30, 2010 at 5:33 pm
This is a great paradigm shift in thinking! Uninor has just changed the tariff war is fought – with changing tariff! It’s highly engaging! In my phone it is showing 40% OFF on DP”!
emad April 30, 2010 at 5:28 pm
is this news is true that uninor is going to provide gprs free after 6th may ?
and what about above news i asked cc tarr he said that this plan not launched yet
juninor ka naumber……..?
Max April 30, 2010 at 5:07 pm
@adam
NO TAT IS NOT THE DISCOUNT. still it has to be updated it should show like this ” x% discount on DP” (x may be 5,10,15,20….60)
Max April 30, 2010 at 5:04 pm
@AmitS
ITs nos given for towers, in karnataka they have updated cell broadcast system now in my area its showing “10% OFF ON DP”
AmitS April 30, 2010 at 4:44 pm
I found cell info on my uninor mobile screen -WELCOME 15 ,WELCOME 20 ,WELCOME 25 etc. in UP west .What it means?
adam April 30, 2010 at 4:42 pm
uninor renamed their towers as WELCOME 5 WELCOME 10 WELCOME 15 WELCOME 20 WELCOME 35 i think if my handset shows WELCOME 35 ill get 35 percent discount
Max April 30, 2010 at 4:27 pm
@Rudradeep Biswas
does this plan has any hidden charges like !st minute @ 1re… or daily rental ???
Rudradeep Biswas April 30, 2010 at 4:24 pm
Uninor making another mistake ….. Indians can calculate too! flat discount is alwz better !
Rahul Barik April 30, 2010 at 4:07 pm
Kolkata mein kab aayega. I think reliance ko bhi lana chahiye and when reliance vl launch it vl b d cheapest and sabse hatke.
Joby Xavier April 30, 2010 at 4:07 pm
It wont be success I think.. I am sure that when we are in need for some discounts we wont get that.. and we cant wait for a discount when we want to make a call or what ever it may be
Its always better to go for a flat discount offer such as reliance 1rs/3min
Max April 30, 2010 at 4:00 pm
Its really an innovative plan by Uninor.. Hope it will become superhit plan in Telecon industry. But 5% discount for call means u ll be charged for 47paisa, Is ter any hidden charge for this like first minute @70p or something?
Jack April 30, 2010 at 3:29 pm
Just another marketing strategy…I would rather go for flat discount!
Saral April 30, 2010 at 3:22 pm
neat stuff!
kaushik April 30, 2010 at 3:05 pm
it means in rural area where tower cost is low and numbers are also less than city areas discount will be more
so people want to stay in rural area to get more discounts
RAGHURAJ-GUJARAT April 30, 2010 at 2:58 pm
very good think
Manish April 30, 2010 at 2:51 pm
This new thing give more boost and start a new war in indian telecom companies. Customers will be more happy after coming this type of offers.
rajiev April 30, 2010 at 2:49 pm
is it work . just like manage ur plan.
altaf April 30, 2010 at 2:34 pm
I have only one word to describe this “AWESOME”
kaushik April 30, 2010 at 2:24 pm
WOW
