Micromax's child brand, Yu Televentures headed by Rahul Sharma has announced a new smartphone in the country, after nearly ten months. Back in August 2016, we saw the last smartphone launch from the company, and until now, the company has been silent. When a rumour popped online saying that Micromax is shutting down the Yu Televentures, the company quickly teased a new smartphone, and it's the Yu Yureka Black.
If you recall, the Yu Yureka was the smartphone with which the company made its debut back in 2014. The principal aim of Yu Televentures is to compete with Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Lenovo, Coolpad, etc. However, the company was not able to cope up with the competition set by Chinese brands and eventually lost the momentum.
But the company is now looking to make a comeback, and the first step towards it is- Yu Yureka Black. The Yureka Black is a completely revamped version of the Yureka and has entry-level specifications. The device flaunts a 5-inch Full HD display with a 2.5D curved glass and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology.
Under-the-hood, the phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC with a 1.4GHz octa-core CPU, paired with massive 4GB of RAM and Adreno 505 GPU. The Yureka Black is the cheapest smartphone to offer 4GB of RAM at Rs. 8,999. The device has 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB using microSD card.
Another highlight feature in the phone is the rear camera. The Yureka Black has a 13MP Sony IMR258 sensor with f/2.0 aperture and five element lens. Further, there's an 8MP front-facing camera, which doesn't come with support for LED flash.
The device weighs 142 grams. It's incredible how Micromax achieved to keep the weight that little even though packing a metal body. The entire package is backed by a 3000mAh battery, which is the only drawback in the phone. It also has a fingerprint sensor integrated into the home button, which is rated to unlock the phone in 0.2 seconds.
The Yureka Black has specifications on par with the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and has a better display as well. That said, Yu's comeback seems to be a good one with the Yureka Black, but the real world testing of the phone has to be done to conclude whether it outsmart the competition or not.
The device will be sold exclusively via Flipkart for Rs. 8,999 starting June 6.
