In the last few weeks, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 has been leaked heavily with a couple of hands-on images of the smartphone. Just yesterday, an official teaser of the Redmi S2 was spotted on Weibo consisting of a large “S” letter drawn with red and blue paint. This possibly hints the handset will be arriving in red and blue colour options. Fresh information about the phone also emerged after it was officially spotted on Mi Store in the Czech Republic essentially confirming several of its features. A photo shared by GSMArena shows a blurry Redmi S2 along with key specifications mentioned below it.
The photo shows the Redmi S2 with bare minimum bezels on the sides. A 3.5mm headphone jack is seen sitting on the top edge of the smartphone. As for the specs, the device includes a 5.99-inch display with HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and 18:9 screen aspect ratio.
The Redmi S2 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core mobile platform paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage. Other variants with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage will also be offered. The device will also support microSD card storage expansion.
In terms of optics, the Redmi S2 features a dual camera setup at the back, with a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary depth sensor. The dual camera module will help you capture photos with DSLR-like bokeh effects. A 16MP front camera will present on the front of the phone.
The Redmi S2 will be fueled by a 3080mAh battery. The handset is said to arrive preloaded with Android 8.1 Oreo and MIUI 9 skin. Connectivity options include the micro USB port, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS among others. The Redmi S2 is also expected to launch in the Indian market under the Android One program.
The Redmi S2 has already received cleared prerequisite certifications from 3C and TENAA agencies in China. Hence, the smartphone is expected to go official in the home market as early as this month. Rumours have that Redmi S2 is expected to arrive in India with stock Android experience.
There is no word on the price, launch date and availability, but the surge in teasers and leaks over the past few days hint that the smartphone will be arriving in the emerging markets like India and China soon.
