Xiaomi released MIUI 10 early this year. Since the last few months, Xiaomi has been rolling out MIUI 10 to a lot of its devices including its sub-brand's phone aka Poco F1. The Poco F1 has been recently updated to the MIUI 10 and is soon expected to get upgraded to Android 9 Pie. To recall, the Chinese OEM very recently announced that it is rolling out MIUI 10 to 21 Xiaomi phones. The software rollout is expected to happen in a phased manner, the company had said. This is the second batch of Xiaomi phones to get the MIUI 10 update.
The first batch of Xiaomi phones got upgraded to the MIUI 10 in the month of September this year. The first batch of phones included -- Mi 8 SE, Mi MIX 2, Mi MIX, Xiaomi Mi 6X, Mi 6X, Mi 5, Mi Note 2, Redmi 6 Pro, Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Redmi Note 5 and Redmi S2. The second batch includes 21 phones -- Mi Max standard version, Mi Max high version, Mi Max 2, Mi 4, Mi 4S, Mi 4C, Mi 5S, Mi 5S Plus, Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 5A, Redmi 4, Redmi 4 high version, Redmi 4X, Redmi Note 5A standard version, Redmi Note 5A high version, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 4 MTK version, Redmi Pro, Redmi Note 3 4G, Redmi Note 4X Qualcomm version, and Redmi 4 top end version.
The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A are among the most popular Xiaomi phones worldwide. Even in India, the Redmi 5A gained wide popularity and is still one of the most demanding Xiaomi phones. The Redmi 5A and also the Redmi 5 are getting the MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM update, but unfortunately, it is based on Android 7.1 Nougat OS. As of now, there's no report if the phones will get upgraded to Android 8 Oreo anytime soon.
How to Download MIUI 10 on Redmi 5A, Redmi 5
As noted, Xiaomi is rolling out MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM build to both the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A along with other Redmi and Mi phones. For both the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A, the MIUI 10 update is based on Android 7.1 Nougat and not Oreo or Pie like other Xiaomi phones. The update size for the Redmi 5A is 1.4GB, while the file size of the Redmi 5 is 1.3GB. This is a Recovery ROM, which can be flashed via the MIUI Updater app. The Redmi 5 or the Redmi 5A users can also flash it via TWRP.
It is important to note that the update could be rolling out in a phased manner, this means, if you still haven’t received the MIUI 10 OTA update, you might need to wait for some more days. You can also head to the Setting menu and then to the Software update section to check if there’s any new update available for download on your Xiaomi phone.
Ensure to connect your Xiaomi phone to a Wi-Fi network and create a backup to all your data before installing the MIUI 10 update on your Redmi 5 and Redmi 5A.
