A few days ago, Xiaomi's VP Hugo Barra revealed that its latest flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 5, will be launched in India next month. However, Barra did not reveal a fixed timeline for the launch in the country. Now, in the latest development, Xiaomi’s President Bin Lin has indicated a price range for the forthcoming device in India.

Bin Lin revealed the info in an interview with the Economic Times, he hinted that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be priced at Rs 20,000 and Rs 27,000. If the info turns out to be authentic, then the pricing will be similar to Mi 5's pricing in China. In an earlier report, Hugo Barra said that the around 75 percent of Xiaomi devices are manufactured by Foxconn India. However, Lin revealed that the Mi 5 will not be manufactured in India, not initially.

Given the expected pricing, currently, the Mi5 is the most affordable smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 series CPU on the market.  Samsung's latest Galaxy S7 series also houses the same CPU (not available for the Indian market) and is priced more than Rs. 48,000 in India. So, it won't be surprising if the Mi 5 manages to create the same response in India as it did in its homeland, China.

To recap, Xiaomi unveiled three variants of the Mi 5 in China — 32GB and 64GB storage variants with 3D glass back, and a 128GB storage variant with a 3D Ceramic body. In China, the 32GB storage variant is retailing at 1,999 Yuan (approx. Rs 20,900); the 64GB storage variant at 2,299 Yuan (approx. Rs 24,100); the 128GB storage variant is priced at 2,699 Yuan (approx. Rs 28,300).

Last month, the 32GB and 64GB variants of the Mi 5 went on sale in China. Xiaomi received almost 17 million registrations for the first flash sale and sold nearly 4 million units. There are fair chances that Xiaomi might not launch the 128GB storage variant in India next month.
