Xiaomi Mi 5 to launch in India next month, confirms Hugo Barra

Following the recent launch of the Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi has revealed that the next device to enter Indian shores would be its much-talked about flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 5. The company's Vice President, Hugo Barra confirmed the launch month, however, he did not unleash any info regarding the device's pricing and availability in India.

As we all know, the Mi 5 is Xioami's first device that was launched at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016, Barcelona. The device is already up for sale in Xiaomi's homeland, China. The Xiaomi Mi 5 received a whopping response in China for its first flash sale, as per the company's claim, it garnered 16.8 million registrations. The smartphone was launched in three variants distinguishing on the basis of storage - 32GB/64GB/128GB. To recap, both the 32GB Standard variant and the 64GB Prime variant are equipped with 3GB of RAM while the 128GB Pro variant features 4GB of RAM.

In terms of pricing in China, the 32GB Standard variant is retailing at CNY 1,999 (around Rs. 21,000); the 64GB Prime variant is priced at CNY 2,299 (around Rs. 24,000), and the 128GB Pro variant comes with a price tag of CNY 2,699 (around Rs. 28,000). It would be interesting to see how Xiaomi prices these variants in India.

Talking about the specifications, the Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a 5.15-inch Full HD display, 16MP primary camera with 4K video recording and 4-axis OIS technology, along with a 4MP front-facing camera. It is backed by a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, and a fingerprint scanner that is placed on the rear. It supports connectivity features such as dual-SIM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, IR Blaster, USB Type-C port, and NFC. The device runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 7 on top.
