Apart from Mumbai, the service, which was launched in December last year, is presently available in Kolkata, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Delhi – NCR.

With the M-Pesa mobile money service, Vodafone subscribers will be able to deposit and withdraw cash from designated or specified outlets, transfer money to any mobile phone in India, remit money to any Bank account in India, make payments to recharge prepaid mobiles, make payment of utility bills like electricity etc,  also for DTH service subscription and use it for on-line shopping transactions.

The users need to deposit Rs.200 to register for the service and the company charges Rs.10 per transaction as convenience fee for payment of utilities. Apart from that, there are various slabs for transaction charges (from Rs.1 to Rs.80) for transferring money.

Vodafone India’s M-Pesa service will be rolled out in Lucknow in the next couple of days and  across the country in 12-18 months.

Its a waste then! AIRTEL MONEY does not charge anything for registration, also they upgraded me to an “Express Account” without any charges! When I use each month I do not pay anything extra either.
