Vivo has launched the Vivo V40 series in India. The company has launched its first mid-range premium or entry-level premium devices with Zeiss-tuned cameras. Should you pay attention to this phone series, or do you have better options out there? Let's talk about this here. Vivo has launched two new devices under this series - Vivo V40 and Vivo V40 Pro. Both are 5G devices, but both sport a different chipset to differentiate in performance. However, both devices have a Zeiss-tuned camera system.
So who is this device series targeted for? From the initial impressions looking at the specs sheet, it is a device series that you can potentially get the best performance out of, but instead, it is more geared for people who want a better camera experience at this price range. Vivo V40 5G Series Specs, Does it Make Sense?
Alright, so you get the devices running on FunTouch OS 14 based on Android 14 out of the box. Both devices come with a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate supporting 4500nits of peak brightness. The Vivo V40 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC while the Vivo V40 Pro has MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ SoC. The Vivo V40 has a chipset that may make you wonder about the CPU performance at this price. However, Vivo is more focused on selling the higher-performance "camera" at this point.
The Vivo V40 Pro onn the other hand comes with the Dimensity 9200+ SoC. Now this is a chip that's comparable with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Sure, there's the OnePlus 12R that can be a huge competition to this device both in the aspect of performance as well as pricing. However, the OnePlus 12R is not as camera focused as the Vivo V4o Pro is! So there's that differentiation between the two devices.
The Vivo V40 Pro has a triple camera setup comprising of 50MP Sony IMX921 primary sensor with OIS, 50MP wide-angle-sensor, and another 50MP Sony IMX816 telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom.
The Vivo V40 has a dual-camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and a 50MP wide-angle-sensor, so no telephoto here. For selfies both come with a 50MP sensor. Yes, there's a 5500mAh battery on both with 80W charging support. There's also IP68 certification, which is a great addition.
Do the specs make sense? Well, sure, why not! If the camera is as good as Vivo claims it to be, then why not! But I would still hope that people wait before purhasing this device, and compare the value, camera experience, and OS experience with other devices in the same price range before making the final decision.
