Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel has streamlined its prepaid data pack offerings by discontinuing two of its data packs with 30-day validity. The two packs — Rs 121 and Rs 181 bundled with OTT benefits — used to offer high-speed data to top up data on the existing plan, which can be used for a period of 30 days.

Details of the Discontinued Data Packs

Airtel’s Rs 121 data pack used to offer a total of 8GB (6GB base + extra 2GB if recharged via the Airtel Thanks App) with a validity of 30 days. And Airtel's Rs 181 OTT data pack used to offer 15GB data with 30 days of validity. Airtel Xstream Play Premium subscription for 30 days is included with the pack.

What Has Changed in Airtel’s Data Pack Lineup?

Now, the number of data packs with 30-day validity has reduced, and Airtel currently offers four, including Rs 100, Rs 161, Rs 195, and Rs 361 packs.

Impact on App-Exclusive Benefits

The removal of the Rs 121 data pack has also led to the reduction of packs/plans offering app-exclusive benefits. This means Airtel offers extra data as a reward on specific packs if a customer recharges on the Airtel Thanks App. Now, if we observe, this benefit is slowly being phased away as only one pack (Rs 77 data pack) currently offers such a benefit. This, we believe, is because users are already habituated to recharging via digital platforms, and the adoption has already reached a level which made the telco phase the benefit out gradually.

Final Takeaway
