Android 9 Pie was officially rolled out in August this year by Google. The first batch of phones to get Android 9 Pie update was Pixels and Essential phone. It was then followed by OnePlus, HMD Global and the rest of Android phone makers. Sony now joins the bandwagon. Sony has announced that the company is rolling out Android 9 Pie update for three of its Xperia phones including Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1, and XZ1 Compact. So if you use one of the three Xperia phones you should be receiving the Android 9 Pie update right now. The company has announced that the update is now rolling out over-the-air to the Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1, and Xperia XZ1 Compact phone users, but that's only in select regions for now. If you still haven't received the update, you might need to wait for a few more days as the rollout is happening in a phased manner.
It is a known fact that Sony is pretty good at keeping all its smartphones updated to the latest software version. The company usually is very quick at bringing the latest update to its phones. Before the Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1, and XZ1 Compact, and two more Sony phones including Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact received the Android 9 Pie update.
Android 9 Pie Update Brings New Features
With the Android 9 Pie update, Sony brings a range of new features to the three Xperia phones. The features include -- new navigation gestures, adaptive battery and brightness option, improved security features, digital wellbeing app, new accessibility menu, among other things.
The Android 9 Pie update comes with build number 47.2.A.0.306. The update also includes Android security patch for the month of October which comes along with general bug fixes and improvements. The software update brings features such as a renewed camera interface, Full HD 960p slow-motion video recording, HDR video image enhancement, and among others to the Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1, and XZ1 Compact.
Things to Keep in Mind
Sony has already started rolling out the Android 9 Pie with October security patch to Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1, and Xperia XZ1 Compact users. As noted, the software rollout is said to happen in a phased manner. This means, some of the Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1, and Xperia XZ1 Compact users must have received the update by now, while others might not have. If you are yet to get the update, wait for some more time. You can head to the Settings app to check if you have missed a pending update or not. Also, ensure to back up all your data and connect the phone to a Wi-Fi connection before downloading and installing the update.
