Scala Data Centers, Latin America's sustainable data center platform, inaugurated Phase 2 of its Tambore Campus in Greater Sao Paulo, Brazil last Wednesday. Scala stated that this expansion establishes the campus as the largest data center facility in Latin America. The company plans to invest a total of BRL 6.2 billion (USD 1.13 billion) in this phase, bringing Scala's total investment in the campus to over BRL 10 billion (USD 1.82 billion).

Phase 2 Inauguration
Phase 2 introduces 158 MW of IT capacity across five buildings, two of which (SGRUTB08 and SGRUTB12) are already operational and serving hyperscale clients. The expansion also includes the construction of three additional buildings (SGRUTB09, SGRUTB10, and SGRUTB67), set to be completed by 2025, with anchor clients already secured, the official release said.
Advanced Infrastructure
Located along the Rodoanel, the Tambore Campus is designed to meet future demands in AI and Machine Learning, offering infrastructure with high-density capabilities and energy-efficient design.
Once fully completed, the campus will feature 17 buildings and three power substations, with a total capacity of 600 MW, making it one of the ten largest data centers globally, Scala noted.

Sustainability Commitment
All the new buildings are designed to support AI/ML and accommodate high-density demands, with densities ranging from 24kW per rack up to 100kW per rack. The buildings will utilise liquid cooling technologies for heat dissipation.
Scala affirmed its commitment to sustainability, maintaining a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.4 and a Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of zero, while relying entirely on renewable energy sources.
