The next phase of innovation in the folding phone market will not just be thinner folding devices, but also triple-folding or tri-fold devices. Huawei has already taken the first step, and that too a major one with the launch of Huawei Mate XT. It's price is beyond what we can imagine paying for a phone - Rs 2,35,990 (converted from RMB 19,999, as this was the launch price in China). Samsung, one of the major players in the folding phone segment will also launch a tri-fold phone soon. The thing is, the launch will take place sooner than what most people expect.

According to a report from the South Korean blog Naver, Samsung will call its tri-fold phone "Galaxy G Fold". As per popular display analyst Ross Young, Samsung is planning to launch this new phone at the launch event in January 2026. This could very well mean that Samsung's Galaxy S26 series will launch with the company's first tri-fold phone. Since this information has not been confirmed by Samsung yet, there are good chances that the launch could happen some time else.

Samsung has already teased the tri-fold phone at the Galaxy Unpacked event of 2025 where it launched the Galaxy S25 series which included Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung's tri-fold phone will likely have a different folding technology and style than the one we have seen on Huawei's tri-fold phone. Huawei isn't selling the device in the global markets, but Samsung will. It will be pretty interesting to see if Apple also launches its first foldable phone in 2026.
