Dual 4G VoLTE Functionality is Now Rolling Out to Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ in India

Samsung is rolling out a new OTA update to its flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ in India. The new update brings the much-awaited Dual VoLTE functionality to the smartphone, meaning users can enjoy 4G and VoLTE on both the SIM cards, which was not present earlier. Alongside the Dual 4G VoLTE functionality, Samsung also updated the security patch level to May 2018. The South Korean company also enabled dual VoWiFi

functionality as well. But currently, there’s not even a single operator supporting VoWiFi service, but it’s expected to change in the coming days. Besides these changes, the update improved the performance of VoLTE and VoWiFi in both the smartphones.

This new update weighs around 426MB for the Galaxy S9+, and the dual VoLTE feature is enabled only in the dual-SIM variants of the Galaxy S9 and S9+. When Samsung launched the devices back in March 2018, dual 4G functionality was disabled on the smartphones, but thankfully, it’s enabled now.

Sadly, the new update is based on Android 8.0 Oreo itself and not on Android 8.1 Oreo. Samsung is testing the Android 8.1 on the Galaxy S9+, but it seems like the update isn’t ready yet. The new version takes the device’s build number to G965FXXU1BRE5 from G965FXXS1ARD1.

Dual 4G and dual VoLTE is a much-needed functionality these days because telecom operators are focusing heavily on improving 4G network service. Also, the top four telcos now offer Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service in all the major telecom circles. Reliance Jio has pan-India VoLTE coverage, while Idea Cellular has coverage in 15 circles. Both Vodafone and Airtel has VoLTE presence in more than ten circles. If you haven’t received the update notification, please head over to the System Updates section in Settings and check it manually. If not, wait for the update which will arrive in the coming days.
