Samsung is now planning to launch expand its Galaxy A series in India. The company is planning to launch a new dual rear camera smartphone this month which will also be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. The smartphone in question is the Galaxy A8 Star, which has been in the news for a while but never went official. With this new smartphone, Samsung will be looking to take on the premium OnePlus 6, but do make a note that Samsung is still considering the Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 price point as the upper mid-range category in India, so the device will not offer as premium specifications as the OnePlus 6.

Samsung Galaxy A8 Star Rumoured Specifications

The smartphone with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, industry sources told IANS on Friday. The new device will sport a 6.3-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED "Infinity Display". The smartphone will house 16MP+24MP dual rear set-up with "Live Focus" feature and a massive 24MP front camera. The phone is also expected to offer a bigger battery.

Samsung is Doing Extremely Well in India

According to Counterpoint and Canalys, Samsung has done a tremendous job in the second quarter of 2018 with the shipments of over 9 million. This allowed Samsung to bridge the gap between Xiaomi for the leading smartphone brand in India. However, Samsung's Galaxy A series will be considered as mishit because of the smartphones such as Galaxy A6+ which packs the entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset.

Samsung in May launched the Galaxy A6+ smartphone for Rs 25,990 with a 6-inch 18.5:9 display. The device was powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset and backed by a 3500mAh battery.

Samsung Wants to Take On OnePlus With the Upcoming Smartphone

It's no doubt that Samsung is looking to take on OnePlus in India because the Chinese handset manufacturer recently surpassed Samsung to become the leading brand in the Indian premium smartphone segment. The premium smartphone segment in India is considered to be Rs 30,000 and above. And the Galaxy A8 Star will fall under this category, to say the least. The Galaxy Note 9 is also priced aggressively in India at Rs 67,900.
