OnePlus has finally rolled out the OxygenOS 5.1.6 update to the OnePlus 6, which brings various new features to the smartphone- including the much-hyped Portrait mode, Idea VoLTE support, brings back the native battery percentage in status bar, adds preview mode for Light Bokeh effect in rear Portrait mode and fixes various issues users are experiencing with the phone. The OTA update, which is around 223MB in size is being gradually rolled out the users in India right now. Besides all the features, the Selfie Portrait feature is the highlight in this new OxygenOS 5.1.6 OTA update. We have tested this feature on our OnePlus 6 and it does a decent job in blurring the background.

OnePlus, during the launch event of the OnePlus 6, last month said the smartphone would receive the Portrait mode functionality for the front camera with an OTA update in the future. And here it is now. The Portrait mode for the front camera can be accessed very easily inside the stock Camera application. All you need to do is swipe right for the Portrait mode option and hit the front-facing camera button on the left bottom, which will take you to the Portrait mode.

Now moving onto the performance of the Portrait mode on the OnePlus 6, it does a decent job in blurring the background in the image, not the best in the business, but it will get better over the period of time with software updates. In good lighting conditions, the Portrait mode is spot on with a good amount of blur that doesn't look artificial like other smartphones with Portrait mode. The blurring effect is natural and the images are usable in any means of social media.

Besides the Portrait mode functionality, the OxygenOS 5.1.6 update for the OnePlus 6 also brings back the status bar battery percentage mode, which is very helpful. Also, for those who interested, OnePlus 6 is now Idea VoLTE supported, and there's an attractive offer going on for Idea Cellular prepaid and postpaid users. OnePlus has also added dual 4G setting in the SIM cards section.

Also, post the update, we noticed some changes in the loudspeaker performance, especially the ringtone volume. OnePlus 6 users can now schedule Do Not Disturb mode on when it should be activated. There's a new Smart Answer functionality over Bluetooth, which when activated automatically answers incoming calls when connected to Bluetooth devices. Lastly, OnePlus also optimised the power consumption and improved overall system stability.

As mentioned, this is an incremental OTA update as stated by OnePlus, so it might take some time to reach your smartphone. Only a small percentage of users will receive it today and the broader rollout will begin in the coming days. Make sure to check out System Updates section manually inside the Settings app.
