HMD Global already has eight smartphones under its belt running the latest iteration of Android which is Android 9 Pie. It seems like HMD Global will soon add another smartphone to the list- Nokia 3.1 Plus as the phone has now spotted running Android 9 Pie on Geekbench benchmarking portal. Having said that, HMD Global must be testing the update internally because the company did not allow unlocking the bootloader of 3.1 Plus, so there are no chances that the phone is running a custom ROM. As of now, it’s unknown when the official rollout of Android 9 Pie

to Nokia 3.1 Plus will begin, but surely, it’s on the cards. Other Nokia smartphones running Android Pie are Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 6.1, Nokia 5.1 Plus, Nokia 8, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 8.1 and Nokia 7.1.

Nokia 3.1 Plus to Become the First Sub-Rs 10,000 Phone to Receive Android Pie Update

HMD Global has recently slashed the price of Nokia 3.1 Plus and it’s now retailing for Rs 9,999. Once the Android 9 Pie rollout commences for Nokia 3.1 Plus, it will be the first device under Rs 10,000 to run Android Pie. The company already pushed the update to the Nokia 5.1 Plus which is priced around Rs 11,000 (currently available for Rs 9,999 as part of Flipkart’s Republic Day sale).

The Nokia 3.1 Plus is currently running Android 8.1 Oreo with December 2018 security patches. It’s entirely possible that the phone will receive Android 9 Pie update with January 2018 security later this month itself.

Nokia 3.1 Plus: Specifications and Features

HMD Global launched the Nokia 3.1 Plus aiming at the offline market, meaning the phone doesn’t offer specs as good as the Nokia 3.1 Plus or any other Xiaomi smartphones out there. Talking about the specifications, the Nokia 3.1 Plus has a 6-inch HD+ display on the front with 18:9 aspect ratio and no notch. The phone is constructed out of the plastic to save the costs.

Underneath, it has the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. HMD Global was said to launch another variant of 3.1 Plus with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, but there are no details on the same. The device also has a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 400GB.

As for the cameras, we have a 13MP primary shooter on the rear side paired with a 5MP depth sensor which collects bokeh information. On the front, HMD Global has added an 8MP sensor for selfies and video calls. As noted, the phone is currently running stock Android 8.1 Oreo, but it will receive Android 9 Pie update very soon. Lastly, the budget Nokia phone comes backed with a 3500mAh battery which is promised to offer two days of battery life on a single charge. Thanks to the Helio P22 chipset, the phone also supports Dual 4G and VoLTE.
