Following BSNL’s footsteps in upgrading broadband data speeds, another PSU telecom unit, MTNL has now revised all its broadband plans with upgraded data speeds of 2Mbps in Delhi.

A few days back, we had reported that MTNL upgraded Broadband packs with extra data to FUP limit in Mumbai. However, unlike what they did in Mumbai, MTNL has increased download speeds till FUP in Delhi. This revision came when the company is losing out customers to rivals Airtel and other broadband providers. Mainly they have revised ADSL broadband plans.

We would like you to check out the details from the chart that is embedded below.

Revised MTNL ADSL Broadband Plans for Delhi Users.
Plan Existing Data Download Speed Revised Data Download Speed
TriB-Silver-UL 1Mbps Upto 2Mbps till 6 GB, 1Mbps afterwards
TriB- Data- 245 Upto 1 Mbps Speed up to 2 Mbps   (Free permitted limit is 2GB)  After free usage 30 paisa per MB for additional 5850MB will be charged.  Maximum billing per month in this plan is restricted to Rs.2000/- only (excluding taxes).
TriB-395-Combo Upto 1 Mbps Speed up to 2 Mbps   (Free permitted limit is 6 GB)  After free usage 30 paisa per MB for additional 5850MB will be charged.  Maximum billing per month in this plan is restricted to Rs.2150/- only (excluding taxes).
TriB-MP1 1Mbps Upto 2Mbps till 6GB, 1Mbps afterwards
TriB-MP2 1Mbps Upto 2Mbps till 6GB, 1Mbps afterwards
TriB-599-UL 512 Kbps Upto 2Mbps till 1GB, 512Kbps afterwards
TriB-597-UL 512 Kbps Upto 2Mbps till 1GB, 512Kbps afterwards
TriB-999-UL 1Mbps Upto 2Mbps till 6GB, 512Kbps afterwards
TriB-749-UL 768 Kbps Upto 2Mbps till 3 GB, 768Kbps afterwards
PP UL data 449 512kbps Upto 2Mbps till 1GB, 512Kbps afterwards
PP UL 4499-Combo Annual 512kbps Upto 2Mbps till 1GB, 512Kbps afterwards
Power Connect 275 192 Kbps Upto 2Mbps till 1GB, 192Kbps afterwards
Power Connect  Annual 2750 192 Kbps Upto 2Mbps till 1GB, 192Kbps afterwards

Note that the both, existing and new MTNL Delhi users, will get revised speeds while browsing. However, this revision doesn’t improve these plans because of the FUP limit. So, we don’t think this will help the operator to winning back users from other networks. Private broadband operators are providing better speeds, good consistency, and quality services, so MTNL will have to outdo these private operators in order to win back customers.

It would be a game changing step had MTNL provided minimum 2 Mbps speeds post FUP rather than till FUP. When they are unable to provide double digit Mbps download speeds within 2,000 INR unlike their main competitor Airtel ( as their copper cabling in certain parts of Delhi lack the capacity to provide double digit download speeds) they ought to have decided to at least provide 2Mbps post FUP to attract new customers and prevent loyal customers from switching over to Airtel. The main reason why Airtel has not completely captured the market is because they have not laid… Read more »
