MTNL Launches New Data Center In Mumbai

Keeping in view the growing demand for data center services, India’s 2nd largest Broadband Service provider, Mahanagar Telephoone Nigma Ltd (MTNL) unveiled one more Data Center at Belapur, Navi Mumbai, today in technical collaboration with IIT-Bombay’s Gigabit Networking Laboratory.

Now MTNL has two data centers at Worli and Belapur (Mumbai and Navi Mumbai) and plans to open one each in Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad in the current year.

The data center facilities will add to the reliability and resilience of the MTNL Services and Applications for customers. The applications in the center will be in-shared and fall-back mode between Worli and Belapur for enhanced customer experience. Belapur data center is in different seismic zone than the Worli Data Center for disaster recovery with latency of the order of micro-seconds.

On this occasion Mr. A. K. Garg, CMD, MTNL, said “More and more people are joining the internet bandwagon. People want new business opportunities, better ways to access information and connect with near and dear ones. MTNL data center provide users with the fastest and most reliable possible access with lowest latency”.

Kudos to Sanjay for bringing out explicit postings on MTNL/BSNL! The current posting on MTNL’s launching data centres too is appreciable. However it is really surprising to note that just by launching facilities (centres) will the purpose would be achieved ? What about the required paraphernalia ? No ‘data cards’ are available in any of the customer care centres under the New Mumbai (Vashi) MTNL exchange ! Many have booked for data cards months back and concerned officials neither able to comment on the data cards ‘non-availability’ nor commit on ‘availability’ ! Details elsewhere !
