Reliance Jio’s entry was a grand one; indeed, a much better one, even the company might not have thought about this sort of response towards their services. However, the company hasn't done yet. It was earlier reported that the firm is planning to launch a feature phone which costs less than Rs. 1500.
But, we now have the purported image of the phone itself. Yes, there was an image leaked yesterday morning of the upcoming Jio feature phone showing the design of the smartphone. Having said that, the phone won’t be booting Android, and the OS which Jio uses in the phone is still under wraps.
There’s much to speak about the design of the leaked phone, but the noticeable thing is there are four dedicated buttons for Jio’s exclusive content system. The four keys will be functioning for MyJio, JioTv, JioCinema, and JioMusic. That said, these upcoming phones will be exclusively for Reliance Jio 4G SIM cards itself.
The interesting part is: Jio requires VoLTE to make voice calls, and there’s no relevant information regarding this as of now. The obvious question which goes into everyone’s mind is: Why Jio wants to release a feature phone at Rs 999 - Rs 1500 and will it make any sense to the consumers? The answer from our side is- Yes.
It will make sense for Jio to release a feature phone offering a limited set of functionalities. Also, we are expecting that the company will provide support for WhatsApp, Facebook, and other instant messaging applications. According to a report, it was said that feature phone market is still leading its way in Indian smartphone space. That said, up to November 2016, the sales of feature phones were standing at 25 million, whereas the smartphone sales were very low at 19 million, which tells the entire story.
Reliance Jio’s Lyf branded smartphones are considerably doing a great job in terms of sales, and they are supportive to LTE-A network as well. However, not every customer in India has the knowledge of using a smartphone. So, the Jio’s upcoming phone will be aimed at those people and Jio will be looking to take on the Airtel and Vodafone by giving seamless 4G experience at a mere price point.
