Reliance Jio has had an impressive run in the Indian market. The telecom operator is a case study for students in the business schools. But we are not here to discuss and praise the telco for its strategy, we are here to see what the results were. Reliance Jio is by far the largest telecom operator in India in terms of consumers. When you look at the official data published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), you will see that Jio added about 100 million new consumers in the last five years.

Which consumers are these exactly? Well, TRAI shares performance indicator reports of every quarter. Jio, between the QE (quarter ending) September 2020 and QE September 2025 added precisely 100 million customers. These are wireless + wireline customers.
Jio’s wireless + wireline customer base jumped from 406.21 million at the end of September 2020 to 506.43 million at the end of September 2025.
To be honest, Airtel also added significant users in the same segment during this time, but Jio’s achievement still outshines everyone else. For now, let’s not go towards Vodafone Idea, because we all know how that would end.

Reliance Jio is breaking new records in India, and is currently the largest FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) services provider globally. Jio also operates one of the largest 5G SA (standalone) networks in the world, and is a winning telecom operator. It has been about a decade since Jio came to the Indian market, and since then, India has not looked backwards.
Jio is the leader in both wireless as well as wireline segment by a huge margin in India. Even though the average revenue per user (ARPU) is lesser than Airtel’s, the sheer scale of Jio’s business covers it up. Stay tuned to TelecomTalk for more such reports in the future.
