IDEA Expands in J&K; Launches GSM Services In the Kashmir Valley

IDEA Cellular, the pan-India and fastest growing GSM mobile operator has expanded its presence in Jammu & Kashmir by launching its services in 9 major Districts in the Valley. The ET ‘Emerging Company of the Year’, IDEA Cellular’s 2.75G EDGE enabled network now covers 12 districts in the state of J&K.

IDEA has expanded its network with nearly 300 cell sites, covering Srinagar City , Badgam, Anantnag, Mattan, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Ganderbal, Patan and Sumbal in the Valley, in addition to its recently launched network in Jammu City , Bari Brahmana, Bishnah, Katra, Udhampur and the Jammu-Katra Highway .

Since its entry into the mobile telephony market of J&K, IDEA Cellular has been offering unique and affordable tariff plans for consumers in the state. Mobile users in Kashmir will now get the ‘freedom of choice’ with IDEA’s ‘Choose your Number’ service, wherein new subscribers can just send an SMS from an IDEA number and get a choice of mobile numbers. IDEA’s ‘Check your Bill’ service offers the freedom to check the user’s bill by simply dialing *147#.

In addition to its best selling ‘Pay in Paisa 60’ plan, IDEA has now launched a special CUG Pack offering highly subsidized call rate of 18 paisa per minute within a group, at a nominal rental of Rs. 18 per month.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Anish Roy, Chief Operating Officer – Punjab, HP, and J&K, IDEA Cellular Ltd. said, “The expansion of our services to Srinagar will enable the people of the state capital and large parts of the Valley to enjoy the same world-class mobility services of IDEA Cellular, as in Jammu and the rest of the country. We understand the mobile communication needs of the people, and the unique geography of the region, based on which we have designed a network that covers large population areas, and a product portfolio suiting the needs and affordability of the local populace”.

IDEA’s widespread network of customer service centres and retail outlets in the state, is being expanded to 18 exclusive ‘Idea Points’, and 3,400 other retail outlets. Aimed at achieving visibility and real time experience, these customer touch points will significantly enhance IDEA’s distribution network and help reach out to its customers across all segments.

IDEA is the leader in the introduction of value added services in the Indian mobile telephony market. With the launch of services, mobile users in the state will now have a rich experience while using value added services such as Music download, Dialer Tones, Voice chat, web-infotainment, high-speed internet Data Card, and other Internet-based multi-media experiences on their EDGE-enabled mobile phones.

IDEA has introduced special voice portal with rich content in the areas of News, Sports, Entertainment, and other regional content in Dogri and Kashmiri languages for its subscribers in J&K.
