Taiwanese smartphone brand, HTC, has launched a new budget smartphone in India, starting at Rs 9,999. Dubbed as the HTC Wildfire X, the smartphone sports triple rear cameras, MediaTek Helio P22 chipset and offers a USB Type-C port under Rs 10,000. The phone comes in two variants with up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone has been launched by HTC's licensee InOne Smart Technology in the country. For the unaware, InOne Smart Technology is also the brand licensee of Lava Mobiles, which is one of the domestic smartphone brands. HTC also states that the smartphone will offer six months of free accidental and liquid damage protection service for free. The company is also promising doorstep pickup and delivery service. That said, HTC promises a lot of things, but the specs of the HTC Wildfire X is mediocre and it's easily outperformed by the likes of Realme 3, Redmi Note 7s and other phones under Rs 10,000.

HTC Wildfire X: Specifications and Features

Talking about the specifications of the HTC Wildfire X, it sports a 6.22-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720x1520 pixels and a teardrop style notch. HTC did not reveal any protection present on the display. Underneath, the Wildfire X comes powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset which is an octa-core SoC we previously saw on the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Realme C2 smartphones. As noted, the phone comes in two variants- one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and the other one with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. There's a microSD card slot as well for storage expansion.

As for the cameras, the Wildfire X offers triple rear camera setup comprising of a 12MP primary sensor, 8MP secondary sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. HTC also confirmed that the camera app comes with 8X Hybrid Zoom functionality. Frontal, the smartphone has an 8MP shooter for selfies and video calls.

The phone boots Android 9 Pie out of the box and it's backed by a 3300mAh battery. Thankfully, HTC has added a USB Type-C port on the smartphone and it measures 7.89mm thickness.

HTC Wildfire X: Pricing and Availability in India

The HTC Wildfire X will be available in India at a starting price of Rs 9,999. The phone comes in two variants- 3GB+32GB and 4GB+128GB, priced at Rs 9,999 and Rs 12,999 respectively. It's safe to say the HTC Wildfire X is the cheapest phone with 128GB of onboard storage. The phone comes in a single colour option- Sapphire Blue and it will go sale starting August 22 via Flipkart.

HTC has teamed up with Vodafone Idea and providing coupons worth Rs 3,750 to the telecom customers. Also, select prepaid recharge plans of Vodafone Idea will ship with 500MB extra daily data for the validity period of 18 months. The Rs 3,750 worth coupons will be provided in the form of Rs 75 vouchers and they can be redeemed on My Vodafone or My Idea app.

The HTC Wildfire X is sort of an overpriced smartphone, considering it's an online-only product taking the likes of Realme 3, Redmi Note 7s and other phones in the segment. The Redmi Note 7s, starting at Rs 10,999, offers a 48MP rear camera something which we haven't seen in this price range till now. The Realme 3, on the flip side, carries a much powerful MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, and it's available at a lower price of Rs 8,999.
