After launching the Desire 820 with an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, the Taiwanese giant HTC might also launch a 5.5-inch ‘phablet’ smartphone based on MediaTek's octa-core processor. Leakster @upleaks has tweeted that the company is planning to launch a handset identical to the HTC Desire 816, although with a different processor and RAM capacity. The handset is slated to have an octa-core SoC from Mediatek, instead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 processor which is present in the Desire 816. The leak also states that the RAM of the device will not be same as HTC Desire 816, so it could go more or less than the Desire 816’s 1.5GB RAM.

In the past few months, HTC has introduced smartphones powered by a MediaTek SoC including the Desire 310, and Desire 616, which has enabled the company decrease the cost of the device. Given the specifications, the handset could be exclusively available for the Asian market.
