Digital wallet and recharge platform Freecharge today announced the integration of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) on its platform. Freecharge announced that its Android application now supports UPI. Freecharge users can now use all UPI based payment services via their @freecharge UPI ID. With the UPI service, users can make payments 24×7, and the payments will be processed immediately. Freecharge Android app users will now be able to use all UPI payment services via their account. With this newly introduced feature, users will be able to send money by entering recipient’s UPI ID or bank account + IFSC, Request money, Pay to all online and offline merchants and Scan, pay or request money through UPI enabled QR code.

Freecharge is also allowing QR Code payments, same as Paytm and other UPI payment services. Users can also link multiple bank accounts to a single UPI ID. As usual, users can access UPI payments service by verifying their mobile number with the bank account associated.

"With UPI integration, we are adding one more large-scale instrument that enables users to make digital transactions with ease. UPI is increasingly emerging as a mainstream payment method and will enhance the growth of digital transactions, and we as a digital facilitator of payments are excited to be a part of this consumer evolution," said Sangram Singh, CEO, FreeCharge, in a statement.

For now, the UPI payments service on Freecharge is rolled out to Android users, but the company said the support would be soon extended to the iOS version as well. Paytm added the UPI payments service a while back to both its Android and iOS apps.

Popular instant messaging platform WhatsApp also added UPI payments service to its application last month and recently rolled out QR Code payments service. With the UPI service rollout to platforms such as Freecharge, the transactions and user base will see a massive surge going forward.
