Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has achieved a significant milestone with 501 4G sites operational in Karnataka as part of its 4G saturation and phase 9.2 project, bridging connectivity gaps in rural areas. The operator shared the update in a post on X (formerly Twitter). With the saturation project, BSNL aims to cover rural or uncovered villages with high-speed internet connectivity.

Performance Monitoring for Enhanced 4G Rollout
In a nationwide effort, BSNL announced the successful deployment of 10,000 4G sites in July under the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative. The telco is collaborating with Indian companies for this rollout.
Newly appointed telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia revealed that the telecom department is forming a performance monitoring unit (PMU) to track BSNL’s 4G rollout progress, with daily targets set for the expansion.

Upcoming 4G Services in Chennai
BSNL is also preparing to launch 4G services in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts under the Phase 9.2 project, planning to install 2,114 4G towers.
Promoting its tariffs as the most affordable, BSNL is inviting customers to join its network. However, a CNBC report indicated that BSNL 4G services might take another year, as informed by the government to Parliament on July 24.

Preparation for 5G
The Department of Telecom (DoT) recently shared an image of a 5G-ready BSNL SIM card on X, signalling BSNL’s preparation for 4G/5G services.
