Bharti Airtel Registers Highest Download Throughput Speed of 7.5 Mbps in Trai’s Independent Drive Test Conducted in Jodhpur City

Telecom regulator (Trai) through its agency conducted Independent Drive Tests (IDT) in the city of Jodhpur in Rajasthan License Service Area. This Independent Drive Test has been carried out by M/s PhiMetrics Technologies Pvt Ltd during August 1, 2017, to August 5, 2017.

It covered a route of approximately 610kms and data tests conducted on 6 hotspots. Cellular mobile telephone service providers included namely Aircel, Airtel, Idea, BSNL, Tata, RCom, Vodafone, MTS and Jio. Tests included 2G, 3G, 4G and CDMA radio access technologies. The drive test route covered different parts of Jodhpur city and its surrounding regions and included areas from where call drop complaints were received, areas of heavy usage, residential areas away from arterial roads and also office areas.

The performance of Airtel, Aircel, Idea, BSNL, Tata, RCom, Vodafone, MTS and Jio was monitored across various technologies- 2G, 3G, 4G, and CDMA. Trai also stated the test results obtained from these drive tests were utilised to assess the network quality for Voice and Data services in terms of:

Voice: Coverage, Quality, Call Setup Success Rate, Drop Call Rate, Block Call Rate, Handover Success Rate.
Data: Download and Upload Throughputs, Web Browsing Delay, Video Streaming Delay and Latency.

Voice Calls

In the report, Trai said that all TSPs have met the 2% QOS benchmark of Drop Call Rate, which is also known as DCR%. The Cal Block Rate (CBR%) benchmark of 3% was achieved by all TSPs except Aircel 3G because Aircel was not measured on the first day.

Data Services

The data services tests were tested in six key locations across the city- Bus Stand, MG Hospital, MG Sardarpura, Nai Sadak, Shastri Circle, and Hotel Sree Ram. The data services which were put into test were listed on the top.

In the data download throughput, Bharti Airtel, the leading telecom operator registered 7.5 Mbps, which is followed by Reliance Jio with 7.1 Mbps speed, Vodafone with 6.9 Mbps, and lastly, RCom obtained a throughput of 5.2 Mbps. In the Upload Throughput department, Airtel handed over the top place to Vodafone which registered 5.4 Mbps upload speed, followed by Jio with 4.3 Mbps, Airtel obtained 3.2 Mbps, and lastly, RCom registered 2.7 Mbps upload speed. This download and upload throughput are obtained in 4G technology.

When it comes to 3G technology, Airtel leads the list with 4.9 Mbps download throughput, followed by Vodafone and Idea with 3.4 Mbps and 3.2 Mbps. In the upload throughput department, Airtel alongside RCom registered 1.4 Mbps speed, followed by Aircel with 1.3 Mbps and Vodafone with 1.2 Mbps speed.
