Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE 2 or iPhone SE (2018) has been in news for quite some time and reports till now suggested that Cupertino tech giant will launch it in June during its Annual Developers Conference, WWDC 2018. Now a new report claims that Apple may not launch the iPhone SE 2 before September. A Macotakara report states that the iPhone SE 2 will not launch until September of this year, based on information from supply chain sources. The report adds that mass production of the iPhone SE 2 has not yet started, with Apple targeting a release alongside its iPhone X refresh later this year.
As for the iPhone SE 2 design, the report states Apple is yet to settle for the final design of the device. The company is still considering multiple prototypes, but there remains confusion regarding the display design. While Apple has tested a 6-inch display model, the company could also retain the same 4-inch format as the current iPhone SE.
The report goes on to note, however, that “all of the prototypes” have one thing in common: a notched display design just like iPhone X. The report suggests that prototypes considered for final design also don’t feature a physical home screen button and their upper parts are cut into the shape of the True Depth camera. This means Apple iPhone SE 2 will be arriving with FaceID facial recognition technology.
While the design hasn’t been finalised so far, renders from case maker Olixar depicted the iPhone SE 2 with the same rounded notch as the iPhone X. The accessory maker also leaked the alleged schematics of the phone, as well as photos of the real screen protectors.
These suggest iPhone SE 2 will feature a chassis similar to iPhone 5S and is expected to have exact same dimensions as the original SE. That is, 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches (123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm). It is expected to weigh around the same as well - 3.99 oz (113 g). The absence of home screen button suggests the iPhone SE 2 will adopt the same gesture-based user interface as the iPhone X.
Meanwhile, reports indicate the iPhone SE 2 will be powered by Apple A10 Fusion chipset that Apple introduced with Apple iPhone 7 series. Another expected feature is the support for HEIF/ HEVC media recordings. Other rumoured specs also include 2GB of RAM and storage options of 32GB and 128GB. There are chances the phone will be supporting a glass rear and come with wireless charging technology.
