Google has announced that it is rolling out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to Nexus devices released in 2013, 2014, and 2015. These devices include the ageing ASUS Nexus 7, the LG Nexus 5, the Motorola Nexus 6, and the HTC Nexus 9 along with the recently released LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P.
This update brings two important features to these devices, over 200 new emojis and the double click power button shortcut to access the camera. The updated emoji list contains middle finger, taco, rolling eyes, champagne, and many others. Even Android One devices started receiving the Android 6.0.1 update. This update comes after Apple released a lot of new emojis with iOS 9 update.
Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update features
- Over 200 new emojis
- Power button double click shortcut to open the camera app
- Android security patch for December
- Until Next Alarm option for Do Not Disturb mode
The Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P already came with the camera shortcut feature, but the older Nexus devices will receive the feature to activate the camera even from sleep mode by double clicking the power button with the upcoming update. This update is also compatible with the ASUS Nexus Player, but the device isn't available in India.
The update has started rolling out already, but since it will be released in phases, it might take a week before it hits your compatible Nexus device. If you don't want to wait for the OTA, you can download the factory image files and install it manually from the Google Developers website here. Let us know if you've received the update in India.
