Airtel Zambia Officially Launches Its 5G Network

Airtel Zambia has officially launched its 5G network at a spectacular event held at the Intercontinental Hotel on Tuesday. The grand launch showcased the capabilities of Airtel's 5G services, allowing guests to experience high-speed network connectivity on smartphones, virtual reality (VR) experiences, hyper-realistic VR gaming, VR Golf gaming, 8K streaming, and much more.

5G Network Launch

Airtel Zambia confirmed the official launch of its 5G network through social media posts, following a series of teasers leading up to the event. The company highlighted that its 5G network provides data speeds up to 10 times faster than previous technologies, incredibly low latency, and seamless connectivity for numerous devices.

"With Airtel's 5G network, you can now enjoy ultra-fast real-time connectivity for activities like multiplayer online gaming, live streaming, content uploads and downloads, as well as ultra-reliable wireless home internet," announced Airtel Zambia.

5G Network Availability

The 5G Network, initially rolled out in select areas of the capital city, Lusaka, promises Airtel Zambia customers a high-speed network experience in these specific 5G zones. To complement the 5G offering, Airtel is also providing customers with the option to purchase a 5G router, available at any of its retail stores.

Airtel Zambia VoLTE and eSIM Launch

The 5G launch adds to Airtel Zambia's recent Technology announcements. In June 2023, the telecom provider introduced HD Voice calls with Voice over LTE (VoLTE) Technology, enhancing the clarity and quality of voice communications for its users. Following that, Airtel introduced eSIM services, enabling users to enjoy connectivity without the need for a physical SIM card as reported by TelecomTalk.

Spectrum Acquisition

In October 2022, Airtel Zambia acquired an additional 60 MHz of spectrum in the 800 MHz and 2600 MHz bands. Airtel Africa stated that the spectrum purchase was aimed at supporting Airtel Zambia's network expansion plans, including the rollout of 5G services and the provision of "significant capacity" to meet the surging data demand in the market.
