Aircel users, who’re yet to port out from the network has a good news as the telco is now officially allowing them to generate Unique Porting Code from its website. The telco, which filed for bankruptcy a while back has been plagued with UPC generation issues as a massive number of subscribers across the country tried to generate codes at the same time. Aircel before filing bankruptcy approached Trai to help the telco generating UPC in a big number because consumers faced no network issues back then. Now the telco inked ICR deals with other telecom operators to provide services, but the users are not ready to stay on the network. Also, the ICR deal allows Aircel users to at least generate UPC which will be required to port out from one network to the other network.
Aircel customers can head over to the company’s website Aircel.com and look for a banner with ‘Generate UPC to port out from Aircel.’ Clicking on that banner will take you to a new page where you need to enter the Aircel number, last five digits of SIM number and choose the circle. That’s it, the UPC will be generated. Post which you can head over to any other operator’s retail store and submit the UPC along with your personal details to get the porting done.
Telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, BSNL and Idea Cellular reported a large number of Aircel customers porting into their network. Earlier, when the massive porting requests were happening, BSNL reached out to Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring (TERM) touting that Aircel’s management is not providing any technical assistance to the users who’re interested in joining the BSNL network. Aircel customers looking to join BSNL network faced several technical issues such as Mobile Number Portability request rejection due to wrong UPC and so on.
The new method of generating UPC via the company’s website will eliminate such issues, and the process will be smoother for the users as well. That said, Aircel is allowing users to generate the UPC across all the circles. All they have to do is select the correct circle while generating the UPC from the website. Aircel is currently in the process of preparing a compliance report of security deposit amount of its postpaid users as directed by Trai.
