As seen from the above list, Xiaomi is putting in a lot of effort to make sure the MIUI 9 update is available to most of its devices. Several of its devices are quite older such as Mi 2 that was released in 2018 and Mi 3, Mi 2S and 2A that are from 2013.

The MIUI 9 OTA update has already made its way to several Xiaomi smartphones including Redmi Note 4, Mi Max 2, Mi MIX 2, Mi 5, Redmi 4, Redmi 4A, and the Redmi Y1. Xiaomi is said to be currently testing the MIUI 9 update for Redmi 4 Standard Edition and Redmi 3.

The MIUI 9 Global ROM includes tons of improvements and new features. A company spokesperson said the MIUI 9 comes with improved performance and is way faster than Samsung TouchWiz. The launch times of apps in stock Android and MIUI 9 were found about the same.

The MIUI 9 also comes with a Smart Assistant that can be accessed by swiping upwards from the home screen button. The assistant helps you search almost anything on your device, whether it is a text from a particular day or a photo from a particular event on the phone. There’s also a split-screen mode and new photo editing app with smart editing tools. However, Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 is based on year old Android 7.0 Nougat, even though Google has already rolled out Android 8.0 Oreo.

Xiaomi recently confirmed that MIUI 9 would be the last major update for is 2012 flagship products- Mi 2 and Mi 2S.
