Internally, they are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, which is an entry-level octa-core chip found in other smartphones such as Motorola Moto G5S, Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Xiaomi Redmi 3s, Lenovo K6 Power.

The differences between the two phones are in the RAM and internal storage department. The Xperia R1 comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and the Xperia R1 Plus gives 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Storage in both the devices can be expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card.
