Sony has launched two budget smartphones in the Indian market, dubbed as Sony Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus. Both the smartphones feature similar hardware and only differs in the RAM and internal storage department. The Sony Xperia R1 is priced at Rs. 12,990, whereas the R1 Plus retails for Rs. 14,990.
In 2017, Sony has launched a decent number of smartphones in India, but most of them are catered to flagship segment. But with the Xperia R1 and R1 Plus, Sony is looking to take on the likes of Nokia and Motorola.
Diving into the specifications of the smartphones, they both sport a 5.2-inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The display has a 2.5D curved glass on top. Internally, they are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset, which is an entry-level octa-core chip found in other smartphones such as Motorola Moto G5S, Nokia 6, Nokia 5, Xiaomi Redmi 3s, Lenovo K6 Power.
The differences between the two phones are in the RAM and internal storage department. The Xperia R1 comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and the Xperia R1 Plus gives 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Storage in both the devices can be expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card.
They both run Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, and Sony even promised Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade very soon. These dual-SIM smartphones have support for 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS. The best part is Sony has gone with a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer purposes, and yes, they both have a 3.5mm headphone jack as well.
The Sony Xperia R1 and R1 Plus feature a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and hybrid autofocus technology. Up front, Sony added a 8MP selfie camera which also comes with hybrid autofocus support. Both the smartphones are backed by a 2620mAh battery.
Both the devices will be available in India starting November 10, and they come in Black and Silver colours.
