HMD Global, the head of the Nokia Mobiles has requested Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to change the model number of the upcoming Nokia 9 flagship phone. The Nokia 9, earlier this month was certified by the regulator with model number TA-1004, but HMD requested to modify number as TA-1012. Apparently, HMD asked to transfer all the Nokia 9 test results to a new model number.

The firm explained to the regulator that the TA-1004 was the representative of the TA-1012. Furthermore, Nokiapoweruser reports that HMD may have cancelled the 4GB RAM variant of the phone because their sources claim that the device will pack a minimum of 6GB of RAM. To justify the report, a device with model number TA-1012 was spotted on Geekbench benchmark site with 6GB of RAM.

And more recently, a Nokia smartphone with moniker 'Unknown Heart' was spotted on Geekbench with massive 8GB of RAM. Is this the Nokia 9? It certainly does because the processor used is the Snapdragon 835. Will this mean the Nokia 9 come with a minimum of 6GB of RAM and 8GB RAM for another variant?

Late last month, a French site have revealed all the details about the Nokia 9, claiming that they have used the prototype unit of the device, covered by a tight shell for a few minutes. In fact, the publication did a hands-on review of the product as well.

The Nokia 9 will flaunt a 5.3-inch QHD display. The fingerprint scanner on the phone will be integrated into the home button placed below the screen, same as the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, paired with either 6GB/8GB of RAM.

The upcoming flagship phone will adore dual cameras at the back and will have a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack. The device revealed by the publication also had just 4GB of RAM, but HMD has now requested FCC to cancel the device. So, there won't be a 4GB RAM version of the Nokia 9. The handset was running Android 7.1.1 Nougat, close to stock Android.

That said, will HMD release two variants of the Nokia 9? One with 6GB of RAM and a 5.3-inch display, and the other with 8GB of RAM and 5.7-inch display? Nothing is confirmed as of now. However, with HMD cancelling a variant and the device appearing in benchmark sites probably tell that the smartphone launch is around the corner. Also, a report claimed that the Nokia 9 would be priced at Rs. 44,999, which is a decent price for a smartphone with top-notch hardware.
