Bharti Airtel has started rolling out the Aadhaar-based e-KYC solution in stores across Delhi NCR. The solution will be extended to other places in the upcoming days.

With the Aadhaar-based e-KYC solution, the customer purchasing a SIM card can avail an instant verification process. The customer will have to submit/verify their Biometrics (iris scan / fingerprints) at the Point of Sale. The biometrics data will be matched with the UIDAI database and once validated, the connection will be activated instantly in his/her name. This means that the customer is free from the hassles of submitting the documents as he/she’ll be verified with his/her Aadhar card details.
Airtel claimed the service to be fully secured. According to the company, the retailer/representative at the point of sale will also be registered under Aadhaar.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Ajai Puri, Director – Operations (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel said, “Aadhaar based e-KYC for a mobile connection is a milestone for the telecom industry and will enhance customer experience through faster on boarding. A customer can now walk into an Airtel store and walk out with an active mobile connection in a matter of few minutes. The solution also complements the Government’s Digital India vision and will add to Airtel’s green initiatives.”
Another operator who has welcomed the Aadhaar-based e-KYC solution is Vodafone India. The operator has partnered with the Department of Telecom (DoT) for pilot testing of the AADHAR based e-KYC solutions in two circles.
