The Motorola Moto X Play, which was announced back in July 2015, will be launched in India today. The company has already announced the launch of the Motorola Moto X Play through its social media channels, and the launch is expected to happen in around two hours from now. Motorola will most probably launch the dual-SIM variant of the Moto X Play considering how valuable the feature is to Indian consumers. It is also being rumoured that company might announce the Motorola Moto X Style today, but we are not too sure about that.

The Moto X Play features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system, a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB RAM, 16/32GB of internal storage space, a microSD card slot, water-repellant nano-coating, 4G LTE connectivity, and a large 3,630 mAh battery. In terms of imaging, the device features a 21-megapixel camera sensor with autofocus, dual-tone dual-LED flash, auto-HDR, and 1080p video recording. There's a 5-megapixel camera up front for better selfies.

The Moto X Play will compete with higher mid-range smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy A8, which is priced at Rs. 30,000 in India right now. It also competes with the Sony Xperia M5 Aqua and the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra, at least in terms of hardware specifications, and both of them come with a special focus on front-facing cameras, thanks to 13-megapixel sensors with autofocus. The price of the Moto X Play hasn't been announced yet, but we believe that Motorola should price it somewhere around the Rs. 20,000 mark to stand a chance to compete with other smartphone offerings in the market.

Motorola Moto X Play

Right now, India has become an important market for Motorola, and its mid-range smartphone, the Moto G (3rd Gen) that was launched recently, is its best-selling smartphone in the country. The company also launched the Moto E (2nd Gen), its cheapest smartphone offering, with 4G LTE connectivity in India, and even that experienced quite good amount of sales. The company's efforts with its high-end Moto X (2015) didn't materialise though due to bad battery life and sub-par camera quality. Let's see how intelligently Motorola prices the Moto X Play in India, especially considering that it has to compete with the likes of Xiaomi Mi 4 and the OnePlus 2.
